U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- Space Training and Readiness Command leaders to include Delta Commanders, Senior Enlisted Leaders, staff and spouses gathered at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Aug. 24-25, to celebrate the command’s first year accomplishments and discuss year two objectives focused on preparing every Guardian to prevail in competition and conflict in the space domain.

“The idea of a Guardian is still a brand new concept,” said Maj. Gen. Shawn Bratton, STARCOM commander. “How will they be trained and educated? How will their systems be tested and evaluated? What kind of warfighting doctrine will guide their actions? STARCOM spent our first year laying out our vision for all of these questions, and we've even had some early progress getting them done. Year two will see us continue to implement our vision and provide the nation with Guardians who are ready to confront any challenge the space domain may throw at them.”

The conference served as an opportunity to establish the command’s focus going forward, to include developing Guardians as combat professionals, advancing combat credible mission systems and tactics, and continuing to build STARCOM as a digital force. Other topics included leadership growth, resiliency, civilian hiring and funding.

Additionally, STARCOM leaders interacted with cadets interested in pursuing a commission into the U.S. Space Force during a panel discussion and joining them for lunch. STARCOM leaders were also led by cadets on a tour of air and space related training tools to include the FalconSAT program and MultiDomain laboratory.

The conference and week-long celebration of STARCOM’s birthday culminated with the field command’s first Annual Awards Banquet. The ceremony formally recognized STARCOM’s annual award nominees and winners.
